This five-week course outlines the gendered dynamics of poverty and socioeconomic empowerment in both development and humanitarian settings. This includes challenges and practical interventions to address economic empowerment including vocational training, micro lending, and other strategies. Topics covered include: gender dynamics of socio-economic empowerment, patterns of inequality, modalities for socioeconomic empowerment in development and humanitarian settings, challenges to socioeconomic empowerment, gender and socioeconomic empowerment in the Arab world.
The course is part of the Gender in Development and Humanitarian Assistance (GDHA) Diploma continuing education program targeting students and practitioners organised by the Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World (IWSAW) and the Continuing Education Program (CEP) at the Lebanese American University with Human Rights Education Associates (HREA).
Classes take place on 18 May, 25 May, 1 June, 8 June and 15 June from 18:00-21:00 at LAU's Beirut campus. It also possible to participate in the course through web-conferencing.
